Edvard Munch, Women On The Beach

Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was one of the most acute examples of a tortured artist. HIs mother died when he was five, leaving Edvard and his four siblings to be raised by his harsh father. Mental illness ran in his family and Edvard lived in constant dread of inheriting some form of it. He is quoted as saying, "The angels of fear, sorrow, and death stood by my side since the day I was born." While his "The Scream" might be the most well-known example of his work to portray these themes, they are obvious in almost everything else he ever created. Print is matted and ready for framing.
