Donald Teague, The Night Mail, 10x8
$25
Donald Teague (1897-1991) was master of his preferred medium of watercolor - so much so that at the time of his death he was known as the "Dean of American Watercolorists". He began his career as an illustrator and was the primary illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post and also specialized as a Western illustrator for Collier's until that publication's end in 1958. He then spent the rest of his career as a painter. What set him apart, aside from his obvious talent, was his ability to infuse his work with his own personality - his ability to translate in watercolor what he saw and how his subjects made him feel. And as appreciative admirers, even decades later, the echoes of that soulful infusion still shine through.
