Newell Convers Wyeth (1882-1945) As the patriarch of one of the most iconic artistic dynasties in modern times, N.C. Wyeth was one of the most well-known American painters and illustrators. He created more than 3,000 paintings and illustrated 112 books, including Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Robin Hood, The Last of the Mohicans, Robinson Crusoe, Rip Van Winkle, and The Yearling. Sometimes seen as melodramatic, his illustrations were designed to be understood quickly. He understood the difference between painting and illustrating and said in 1908, "Painting and illustration cannot be mixed - one cannot merge from one into the other." Print is matted and ready for framing.
